I am a licensed independent social worker who has dedicated her life to the healing arts. My commitment to the wellness of underserved communities has been demonstrated over the last seven years in service to various communities in the greater Des Moines area.
During those years I have had the privilege of working with individuals in the following junctures in their lives: youth in residential placement, those in recovery from substance use and other comorbid disorders, and corrections. I have also served communities by way of board participation for organizations that serve victims of sexual assault and Black female victims of domestic violence and their children.
My formal education includes a Bachelor's degree in human services and a Masters degree in social work with a concentration in Hispanic families and communities (Unfortunately, I do not speak Spanish).
My approach to therapy deeply reflects the lessons learned on my personal journey. As a human dealing with human experiences, I came to understand that healing took place on a mental/emotional, spiritual, and physical plane. These are the foundational pillars to humanness and therefore felt I would be remiss to not address these dimensions of humanness with my clients during our time together on their path to healing.
And thus my niche as a holistic mental health therapist. I specialize in techniques that address trauma from a ‘bottom up’ approach, working with patients to work with the knowledge available from the body and other internal and/or natural resources while integrating traditional psychotherapy with mind-body approaches to support clients in overall wellbeing.
